Monthly meeting of the Elgin Genealogical Society with William Kolasinski presenting “Abraham Lincoln: A Life in the Shadow of Death”. Abraham Lincoln was a man who faced death from an early age. As a three year old, he watched his infant brother die, then his aunt, uncle, and mother, before he reached the age of ten. He struggled with the sudden death of a young love, then two sons by age 50. He nearly lost his own life several times before the age of 21. During his Presidency, this man who wished to govern “with malice toward none,” saw over 600,000 of his countrymen die. He presided over a country awash in blood. How did he suffer through this life filled with death and still become the steadfast leader who saw the nation through its most agonizing years?
